Earning Points

“Cash back” rewards are earned under the U.S. Bank SmartlyTM Visa Signature® Card program. These rewards are tracked as “Points”, and U.S. Bank will credit your U.S. Bank SmartlyTM Visa Signature® Card with 2 Points for every $1 spent “in eligible Net Purchases.

U.S. Bank Smartly™ Visa Signature Cardmembers that also have an open a U.S. Bank Smartly® Savings account and have average daily qualifying balances you can earn even more:

  • Between $5,000 - $49,999.99, to earn a total of 2.5 Points per $1 (a base of 2 Points plus the Smartly Earning Bonus of 0.5 Points)
  • Between $50,000 - $99,999.99, to earn a total of 3 Points per $1 (a base of 2 Points plus the Smartly Earning Bonus of 1 Point)
  • $100,000 or more to earn a total of 4 Points per $1 (a base of 2 Points plus the Smartly Earning Bonus of 2 Points)

Qualifying balances (“Combined Balances”) with U.S. Bank in checking account(s), money market savings account(s), savings account(s), CDs and/or IRAs, U.S. Bancorp Investments and personal trust account(s). Note: Balances in business accounts, commercial accounts, and the Trustee only (IFI) client relationship and other trust relationships do not qualify. See Consumer Pricing Information at usbank.com/cpi for additional details.

The Combined Qualifying Balance is determined as follows:

a. First, at the end of each month an average Combined Qualifying Balance is calculated. The balance is based on a 90-day average balance of all qualifying accounts and is calculated by adding together the end of day ledger combined balances for every day in the last 90 days and dividing the total by

i. 90 calendar days, or

ii. the number of days since opening an initial qualified account.

b. Next, the Smartly Earning Bonus tier that is applied to your U.S. Bank Smartly credit card account is determined by one of two potential calculations: 

i. For the initial evaluation after opening your first qualifying account and at the beginning of every calendar month thereafter, we will apply the Smartly Earning Bonus tier based upon the average Combined Qualifying Balance (as described above). 

ii. In addition, we will review the Combined Qualifying Balances on a daily basis to determine whether you qualify for a higher Smartly Earning Bonus tier based upon the day’s Combined Qualifying Balances. 

If your daily Combined Qualifying Balances qualify you for a tier upgrade, you will be moved to the higher tier (within 5 business days). You will remain in that tier until you qualify for a higher tier based on your daily Combined Qualifying Balances, or the calculated monthly Combined Qualifying Balance qualifies you for a higher or lower tier.

The Smartly Earning Bonus tier will be applied to your U.S. Bank Smartly credit card account within the first 5 days of each month or upon reaching a higher tier, which means that the bonus tier that will be applied to your account may vary during a billing cycle. The Smartly Earning Bonus is applied as of the Purchase transaction date (which may not be the date the transaction posts to the account).

For joint accounts: The applicable Smartly Earning Bonus tier will be determined by reviewing the Combined Qualifying Balances in the qualifying accounts of each Cardmember (if there is more than one) and using the total Combined Qualifying Balances of the individual whose accounts have the highest total. (This means that all Cardmembers may be aware of the balance range of the Cardmember with the highest qualifying balance each billing cycle.) Balances of the Authorized User(s) will not qualify for determining the Smartly Earning Bonus tier.

Points will expire if there is no reward, purchase, or balance activity on your account for 12 consecutive statement cycles.

Earning is unlimited with no caps or category restrictions.

When you make a purchase on a hotel or car reservation with your Bank Smartly card through the Rewards Center (online/by phone), you will earn 6 points (2 base and 4 bonus points) for every $1 spent in Net Purchases.

For example: Mrs. Ford contacted the Reward Center to reserve a car for holiday travel. She prepaid $100.00 for the car rental using her rewards credit card. An example of her base earn for each $1 spent in eligible net purchases is 2 points. Therefore, she would be awarded 200 points back for base earn + 400 points additional points back for a total of 600 points.

Points are deposited to your Bank Smarty card account after payment has been processed for a prepaid hotel and/or car reservation. In the Rewards Center under points history, you will see the additional points that have been awarded. Please allow 1-2 statement billing cycles for your bonus points to appear on your credit card statement.

Redeeming Points

The U.S. Bank Smartly card offers a variety of exciting rewards including a deposit into your U.S. Bank checking, savings account or money market account, merchandise, gift cards, event tickets, statement credits and more. For a complete list of rewards, log into your account at usbank.com, then visit the Rewards Center to view, manage, and redeem your points.

Once you have earned enough points for a reward, redeeming is simple. You can use the Rewards Center at usbank.com to turn your points into rewards with just a few clicks of your mouse. You may also redeem over the phone by calling 888-229-8864 and a Rewards Service Advisor will assist you with your redemption. You may also redeem through text message after signing up for Real-Time Rewards.

Your U.S. Bank Smartly card account must be open and in good standing according to your Cardmember Agreement to redeem points. Subject to applicable law, any remaining points will be lost when an account is closed. Please call Cardmember Service at 800-285-8585 for inquiries about reopening a U.S. Bank Smartly Visa Card.

Redeeming your points for a statement credit does not count as a payment and thus will not reduce your minimum payment. Your redemption will reduce your account balance, however.

Real-Time Rewards

It’s a rewards redemption method that enables you to instantly turn your purchases into rewards. Your mobile device can be used to immediately redeem points in the form of a credit to your monthly billing statement. 

First, complete a 2-minute registration to set your preferences. Then, after you make a purchase that meets your preferences, and receive a text asking if you want to use points to redeem immediately after the purchase, simply reply ‘REDEEM’ to the message to complete the redemption. You must have enough points to cover the entire purchase in order to receive the text message to redeem. Your points will be deducted from your points balance and redeemed in the form of a credit to your monthly billing statement. See Program Rules for additional details.

Yes, you may assign a 10-digit U.S. mobile number to your accounts in good standing.

No. You may only assign one 10-digit U.S. mobile number per account.

The text message is sent at the time of the eligible purchase. You have 24 hours from the time the purchase is made to respond to the text message and redeem cash rewards. 

Most gas and restaurant purchases are not available for Real-Time redemption because they are often two-stage authorization processes. For instance, restaurant purchases often have a tip after the initial authorization.

The 4% additional bonus offer excludes real-time rewards point redemption on hotel and car purchases. You must pay for the prepaid hotel and/or car rental with your rewards credit card.

No, Real-Time Rewards text messages are available only for transactions with U.S. merchants.

You may receive a Real-Time Rewards text message for an auto bill pay transaction if the purchase falls within your preference selections.

The statement credit may be different from your final purchase amount if the transaction included a gratuity, fees or estimated taxes.

You can opt-out at any time by going online to the Rewards Center or by texting ‘STOP’ to REDEEM (733336) or by calling the Rewards Center at 844-357-2015. After you opt-out, you may still receive text messages for up to 24 hours. Please see Program Rules for additional details.

All redemptions are final. However, if your item is damaged, defective, or mis-shipped, please refer to the terms and conditions on the product’s item detail page within the Rewards Center or on the packing slip you received with the item(s).
